The police chief proposed purchasing four vehicles in the coming fiscal year — two squad cars, one vehicle for detectives and a replacement for a car damaged in a crash — and staff said several purchases were carried forward from FY2026.
Staff explained the replacement for the damaged vehicle will be offset in part by reimbursement from the at-fault driver. The chief (addressed during the presentation) said the department typically rotates admin cars down to deputy and detective use when new vehicles arrive. "So we wouldn't be losing a car. It would be keeping vehicles in rotation," staff said. The council did not object to carrying over the vehicle purchases from last year into the FY2027 budget.
The village will split police-vehicle purchases between two special funds and continue to monitor fleet-replacement loan schedules and potential reimbursements.
