Deputy Chief Homan told council the department obtained a Tiffin Community Foundation grant for just over $1,600 that allowed purchase of about 30 LifeVac airway-clearance devices; the devices were placed in fire apparatus, some given to police vehicles and others distributed to parks, and staff provided training for first responders and parks employees. "Thanks to the Tiffin Community Foundation, they gave us a grant for a little over $1,600 … and we were able to buy 30 of these," Homan said.
Chief Chappell also reviewed mobile food preparation vehicle oversight, saying the city now has 34 licensed mobile food vehicles and that inspections have uncovered safety issues such as deteriorated propane line jackets on an unlicensed vehicle parked at a commercial entrance. Chappell said those hazards were addressed and credited deputy staff and the administrative assistant for managing licensing and inspection questions.
