Council members used their opening remarks to publicize community events and volunteer opportunities and later approved resolutions accepting donations for neighborhood programs.
Councilwoman Pat Van Hout and Eric Minky Minjee of the Mazin Jobe Senior Center promoted the city’s Senior Expo on Aug. 12 at the Pasadena Convention Center, noting past attendance of about 1,500 seniors and roughly 90 vendor booths. Councilman Guerrero and others publicized multiple back-to-school events and a Harris County birth-certificate event on Aug. 1. During resolutions, the council accepted in-kind and monetary donations, including a $500 wheelchair from Lowe's, $2,500 from Solser Electric Mechanical Services Inc., and $10,000 from Chevron Pasadena Refinery via Fidelity Charitable to support neighborhood-network programs.
Council also noted the city’s Team Up to Clean Up volunteer event scheduled for Oct. 17 and encouraged resident participation. The council unanimously approved the listed resolutions with one abstention recorded on an item noted by Councilman Estrada.
