The Porterville City Council approved an emergency motion to provide a $1,000 donation from council discretionary funds to the Porterville Little League 11U All Stars to help families travel to the upcoming state tournament.
Krisha Copeland, a parent for the Little League team, told the council the team had won district and section championships and needed help covering hotel and travel costs for 12 families traveling to Folsom. Mayor Meister moved an emergency $1,000 donation and asked staff to coordinate delivering a check and a photo opportunity; the motion passed with four ayes and one abstention (Councilmember Beltran abstained, citing recent support already provided to the league).
City staff indicated no immediate budget amendment was required and will return a ratifying resolution at the next meeting. Private donor QK Inc. offered to match the $1,000 contribution publicly during the meeting.
What’s next: Staff will prepare a ratifying resolution and coordinate disbursement and a photo with league representatives and council members.
