Board approves Lowry City Community Betterment playground project and $1,000 city donation

The Lowry City Board of Aldermen agreed July 21 to allow a playground project spearheaded by the Lowry City Community Betterment (LCCB) after the group announced a $7,580 grant award for playground equipment. Michelle Parmalee, representing the LCCB, said the group hopes to raise $30,000 to complete the project.
The board approved allowing the project on a motion by Alderman Cecil Shehorn and a second by Alderman Sean Langston; the vote was 3–1 with Alderman Charles Cone opposed. In a separate motion, the board voted unanimously to donate $1,000 from the city’s general fund toward equipment purchase. Parmalee requested city support during public input.
The LCCB will continue private fundraising to reach its $30,000 goal; the board’s $1,000 contribution is intended to help toward purchasing playground equipment but does not commit the city to further funding.
