Lowry City board approves $2-per-month A-1 Disposal rate increase

The Lowry City Board of Aldermen voted unanimously July 21 to authorize A-1 Disposal to raise residential trash rates by $2 per month beginning Aug. 1, 2026. Michelle Parmalee, appearing with owner Barbara Tabor, read a company letter explaining the increase and citing higher operating costs.
"Rates for residential customers will increase $2 per month beginning August 1, 2026," Parmalee said while presenting the company request. Alderman Sean Langston moved to authorize the increase and Alderman Cecil Shehorn seconded; the motion passed on a unanimous vote. The board noted the contract for trash service will be placed out for bids in 2027 and bids will be due before the June meeting when the board approves the budget.
The action was procedural: the board approved the rate increase request from the current contractor rather than awarding a long-term contract. No change to the bid timeline was made; the board retained the plan to solicit bids in 2027.
