Board members acknowledged that Sarah Tuarti, a teacher at Myrtle Beach High School, is one of five finalists for Teacher of the Year. The superintendent or his representative was attending the ceremony on the board's behalf.
"Miss Sarah Tuarti, Myrtle Beach High School teacher is 1 of the 5 finalists, and we are wishing her all the luck," Durham said, noting Dr. Burns was representing the district at the event in Orlando. Board members observed it would be a point of local pride if she wins, while noting the district would temporarily lose the teacher for a year if she accepts certain duties associated with the award.
