Wakefield summer programs served 500+ students; ESY and Wakefield Academy provide IEP and enrichment services

Dr. Lyons said Bev Elsowicz and her team ran the district's extended school year (ESY) services for students with IEPs and that the program served just over 500 students from July 6 through August 6, Monday through Thursday. The program included academic reinforcement, reading and math tutoring, speech, occupational and physical therapies, and wraparound supports.
He said Wakefield Academy ran summer academic and enrichment camps across Galvin and Doyle, serving pre-K through grade 7 with separate morning and extended-day offerings; the district also used older high-school students as staff in the programs to create work and mentorship opportunities. Dr. Lyons said the ESY model is scalable and that the district coordinated locations across schools to better serve participating families.
