Scott City Council approves sewer main extension on Scott Street; city to pay $36,770

The Scott City Council voted July 6 to extend sewer service to 881 Scott St., approving a city contribution of $36,770 toward a $73,540 project after property owner Scott Martin offered to pay half the cost.
Council Member Victor Phillips moved to run the sewer line on the east side of Scott Street; Jack Howard seconded the motion and "all in favor; none opposed," the minutes record. City Administrator Dustin Whitworth told council that current city policy allows up to $8,000 toward extending service to an address but that council was considering a larger capital expenditure from the city's Capital fund for this project.
Martin told the council he has additional property on Scott Street that will need utilities as development progresses and said he would likely not seek annexation of the additional parcels for some time. Whitworth said the Public Works Committee recommended running the main on the east side of the road to serve future growth.
The motion passed without recorded dissent. Council did not specify a funding source beyond stating the expense would come from Capital, and council members acknowledged the expenditure is not currently budgeted.
