Board directs staff to prepare sign-overlay and corridor design standards

"We'd be reaching out to those communities, along with your offices, to make sure that we get the input that we need moving forward," Backs said, and cited the Oakhurst special-sign plan as a working model for outreach and phased compliance.
Supervisors asked whether architectural standards and retroactive treatment of dilapidated or nonconforming signs would be included; Backs confirmed the approach would include architecture and noted enforcement is currently complaint-driven under the zoning ordinance. Board members emphasized flexibility to avoid burdening small businesses while reducing visual clutter along corridors.
The board gave staff direction to proceed with outreach, draft ordinances, and return to the Planning Commission and Board with proposed overlay maps and implementation recommendations.
