Director Joseph Brickweg told the Board the Oct. 13 Firewise Committee meeting produced a proposed five‑year mitigation plan that would include a maintenance schedule and ongoing work on Big D. Park. He reported the District has submitted a grant application for a fire‑suppression pond and that the application is awaiting State approval; hydrant cost estimates are still pending.
Brickweg said the committee recorded that 320 slash piles were picked up during mitigation efforts and suggested the District consider address markers to help emergency responders. He also raised a proposal to explore an AI camera system that could detect smoke and alert the fire department and recommended coordinating with the Douglas County Fire Marshal on road grading for emergency access. The Board did not take formal action on these recommendations during the meeting.
