Deputy directors report hiring progress and internship challenges; Sorrel Leaf crisis residential expected this fall

Deputy Director Jeremy Nilsen said the deputy directors completed clinician interviews this week and are "excited to hire applicants," noting several candidates are interns from Cal Poly and the internship program is working well. Jack Breazeal said the department is exploring how to bring interns from other schools but faces liability, malpractice insurance, and Medi‑Cal billing issues.
Staff also reported that the Sorrel Leaf crisis residential program remains on schedule for a fall opening; contracts, certifications and licensing work are in progress to prepare the program for service delivery.
