Sarah, a representative of the Communications and Marketing Department, told the council the team's work produced more than 100 videos that generated nearly 6,000,000 views and that the department's content produced about 42,000,000 impressions and 2,400,000 engagements over the past year. She said the department won top awards at the statewide TAMEO conference and credited staff and interns for the output.
Sarah described several accessibility and website improvements now underway, including meeting captioning and an AI-assisted alt-text tool that reviewed images and let staff refine descriptions manually. "Our goal is for our communications to be positive, timely, and accurate," she said, adding that accuracy is "a non negotiable." She also noted an internal monthly employee newsletter, Rock Beats, and said the City Arts Center has seen strong attendance after the Chihuly exhibit opened July 15, drawing about 1,300 visitors the opening week.
Councilmembers praised the work. Councilmember Stevens said the posts are "always professional," and Mayor Morgan said the communications team often serves as "the front porch to the house" for residents. Sarah said the department will continue work on accessibility ahead of new state website requirements that take effect in 2027.
