Superintendent previews business–education roundtable as state readies graduation standard changes

Superintendent Hockrider told trustees the district will convene a business–education roundtable on August 27 to bring employers, higher-education representatives and school leaders together to talk about skills employers want and how the district can better connect coursework to workplace expectations.
Hockrider said representatives from SUNY headquarters — including a member of former Chancellor John King’s team responsible for workforce development — will speak about statewide pushes to ensure graduates have work-based learning or credentialed internship experiences. "We're going to continue that theme with our school leaders on August 27," he said, describing a day of morning meetings with business partners followed by an afternoon of district reflection on curriculum implications.
Board members welcomed the initiative and President Tabitha Wilson highlighted the district mission to partner with the community and engage every learner; staff said they will circulate formal invitations and additional event details to trustees and the public in coming weeks.
