Police Chief Bob Connell introduced a newly created Bureau of Professional Standards within the Box Elder Police Department and announced Lieutenant Carlson will head the unit.
Chief Connell described the role: "Lieutenant Carlson is gonna be heading that bureau, taking care of internal affairs investigations, with citizen complaints, fleet management, as well as policy and procedure management, and working forward towards our CLIA accreditation." He summarized Carlson's background in Pennington County law enforcement, training roles, and prior special assignments and invited Carlson's family forward for a brief badgeing and photographs.
Mayor Larson and other council members congratulated the lieutenant; Chief Connell said the department anticipates the new unit will help professionalize internal processes as the department grows.
