City Council approves first reading of tree-management ordinance to align with planting plan

Box Elder's City Council approved the first reading of Ordinance 761 on April 15, 2025, a code update intended to align the city's tree-management rules with a 2024 tree-planting plan adopted by the parks board and council.
"The majority of the changes are to just align the city ordinance language with the new tree planting plan," said Bruce Martin, the city's public works director, who presented the ordinance and explained it adds species lists, a specialty-trees section and clearer tree-spacing language. Councilmember Davis moved to approve the ordinance on first reading; Knight seconded and the motion passed on a roll call vote.
The ordinance was presented as a first reading; the packet included a redlined copy of the proposed changes. Martin said the edits are mostly cleanup and that staff provided the detailed changes in the council packet. No substantive amendments were proposed during first reading. The council will consider subsequent readings as required by municipal procedure.
