The chair said volunteer programs are forthcoming but that initial priorities have been facility repairs and animal welfare — including fixing air conditioning and ensuring medical care such as heartworm testing — before expanding volunteer roles. Staff and commissioners discussed coordinating volunteer involvement once basic welfare and staffing needs are addressed.
