Union City Borough Council accepted a resignation letter from part-time Officer Rick Skonieczka dated Sept. 18, 2024, with an effective date no later than Sept. 30, 2024; the council motion to accept the resignation was made by Councilor Joyce and seconded by Councilor Steadman.
The certified Civil Service list contained two candidates; Chief Pernice requested council approval to complete background checks for candidates and permission to hire two part-time officers. Council approved completing background checks (motion by Councilor Joyce, seconded by Councilor Steadman). In an executive-session outcome recorded in the minutes, council later approved a police contract for Zackery Shelly (motion by Councilor Steadman, seconded by Councilor Kerns). The minutes record the contract motion as carried unanimously.
