Jefferson County presents $153.5 million FY27 draft budget, schedules May 26 hearing

Cameron framed three primary priorities for the draft: sustainability, compliance with state and federal requirements, and student achievement. She explained the state aid formula used to calculate funding is a complex 10‑step process, originally established in 1939 and rewritten in 1971, and noted that "over 93% of our formula is tied directly to enrollment," meaning the district's funding will change as student counts do. The board confirmed the budget publication and legal-ad timeline required by state code; the district plans to publish the required legal notice next week, hold a final public hearing May 26, and submit the adopted budget to the West Virginia Department of Education by May 30.
