Council approves CDBG application and outlines repairs for Municipal Lot #1 sinkholes

Councilors on Sept. 16 authorized the borough to apply for up to $100,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to help pay for stormwater repairs in Municipal Lot #1.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips told the council he and Borough Manager Cindy Wells met with Solicitor Tim Wachter (the meeting minutes record the name as "Tim Wells") and that the recommended work is to fill the sinkhole, replace approximately 10 feet of pipe, and install a new catch basin. Mansfield will fill the sinkhole and install the catch basin; after those repairs the borough plans to perform smoke-and-dye testing. The borough requested paving quotes and said the business owners near the lot and the Union City Volunteer Fire Department (UCVFD) will be notified before testing is scheduled.
