On County Conversations, Kelly Wilson described the county's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) practice of activating a Citizens Information Center to field public inquiries during incidents. She said the center provides a staffed phone resource when the EOC is activated and can assist with locating family members, routing information and answering common resident questions.
Wilson said the call center sometimes receives calls from outside Florida and even other countries because of naming confusion with other places (for example, callers looking for 'Saint John's' in the Virgin Islands). "We received phone calls from other states like, I'm looking for my family member. And their family member was safely evacuated somewhere," she said, describing how staff coordinate with law enforcement and other partners when callers are uncertain about locations or statuses.
