County Solid Waste urges safe disposal of lithium batteries, highlights transfer-station drop-off and app resources

County public-affairs and Solid Waste spokespeople urged residents not to place lithium rechargeable batteries (phone, laptop, etc.) in curbside trash or recycling because they can overheat and start fires, and they reminded listeners that the county offers free drop-off at two transfer stations.
"Never ever put them curbside or in, trash bags and cans or recyclable bins... You can drop them off for free... at the Tillman Ridge Transfer Station or the Stratton Road transfer station," Wayne Larson said. Larson also noted the solid-waste division has maintained a high pickup rate ("in the high 98, 99 percentile of pickups over the past year or so") and encouraged listeners to use the Recycle Coach app or email solidwaste@sjcfl.us for pickup questions.
The county also promoted its SJC Connect app for service requests related to garbage pickup, litter and vandalism. Residents were encouraged to consult the county website for transfer-station hours and the Solid Waste page for disposal guidelines.
