City staff recommended the council certify a proposed millage rate of 4.05 mills for the upcoming fiscal year and the council voted to approve the certification.
The city manager explained that the rollback rate for the city is 3.9402 mills and that the proposed 4.05 mills is 2.79% greater than the rollback rate. "In order for the property appraiser to prepare required notices on the proposed property taxes, which will be mailed to each property owner by August 17, 2026, we must return a certification of taxable value to the property appraiser by July 28," the manager said.
Council moved and approved the certification by voice vote; the council also noted that the millage rate can still be adjusted during the budget process and public hearings prior to final adoption.
