Resident recommends standalone detachment meeting as long-term fix for boundary-area problems

At least one resident and a financial analyst urged the village to consider detachment as a formal, standalone process to address the boundary-area mismatch between taxes and services.
Eric Mortis, who identified himself as a CPA and former Lake District treasurer, said the village's 2016 plan anticipated more lots being built and suggested that the shortfall of developed lots contributed to the current problem. "I'd like to propose that a detachment meeting be done so that we can discuss it," Mortis said, asking the board to schedule a session to consider that option.
The village attorney said detachment was not part of the legal memo he prepared and that he had not evaluated it in detail, so trustees were not presented with a legal assessment of detachment at the meeting. Trustees acknowledged the detachment idea as a possible separate process worth discussing more fully at another meeting.
