Administrator Martinson updated the Public Safety Committee on trespassing and code-enforcement activity at the former DMI property. He said Port Edwards and Wood County have been attempting to secure the first building (owned by Wood County) and that the village has issued citations with limited success getting compliance. "We're up to almost just under $10,000, for citations," Martinson said.
Martinson said village legal counsel advised that continuing to issue citations is appropriate but that taking enforcement beyond that—serving out-of-state papers or pursuing collection—would likely require hiring outside counsel and incur additional costs. He suggested placing the topic on the president's report and on the PFC agenda to decide whether to escalate, and committee members discussed options such as reissuing a public letter, withholding building permits as leverage, or using media outreach to prompt action.
