Mayor Eric Page nominated Nielsen, and Councilor Smith seconded the nomination; the committee voted all in favor with Councilor Greg Sheppard absent with notice.
The appointment occurred at the start of the session convened at Detroit City Hall at 5:30 PM. After the vote the chairmanship was returned to Nielsen, who immediately turned the meeting over to Michelle Connor, the city’s Budget Officer and City Recorder, to present the 2026–2027 Budget Committee Message. The minutes record that the committee then opened a public hearing on the proposed budget and related revenue uses.
