Council briefly approves mask resolution for meetings, then rescinds it to follow state guidance

On Nov. 2 the Lyons City Council considered Resolution #847, which would require wearing a mask at council meetings. Council Member Doug Higgins moved to approve the resolution and Rocky Gaines seconded; the roll call vote was 6 in favor and 1 opposed (Dustin Schultz voted No).
Following discussion, Doug Higgins and Rocky Gaines moved to rescind the approval. Council members said that Governor Kelly's recommendations already address masks and that a separate local resolution could duplicate state guidance. The council therefore chose not to adopt a local mask mandate at that time and rescinded the motion.
