The council adopted ordinance 26-11 on second and final reading to rezone about 113.5 acres on Globe Road from R-1 (low-density residential) to I-2 (Industrial Park). Public commenters included nearby residents who said four households would be affected; supporters said they preferred industrial use to dense residential subdivision and said the contracted purchaser committed to infrastructure work.
Edith Estep, who identified herself as living at 1292 Globe Road, told the council: "My name is Edith Estep. I live at 1292 Globe Road, and I wish to speak on the rezoning of the property on Globe Road." Paul Lagrone (1200 Globe Road) said the potential buyer "has openly told us this is not a data center" and described the buyer as a grading contractor who would address infrastructure. Opponents, including Linda Merritt and Michelle Head, said they had not seen an impact study and expressed concern about traffic, noise and the area's rural character.
Council proceeded with the ordinance readings during the regular meeting; the roll call recorded ayes by the listed members and the rezoning passed. City staff and the speakers noted that rezoning does not grant a building permit or site approval; any specific development will return to the planning commission for review and code compliance.
