Administrator John told the board that a sinkhole opened along the correctional facility's internal roadway near the main entrance and that preliminary assessment suggests it could be as much as 20 feet deep. The county has taped off a lane and plans exploratory excavation and emergency contracting to stabilize the roadway.
John cited Resolution 1 of 2026, which authorizes the administrator to act on emergencies up to $100,000, and said he would return to the board to ratify expenditures once the work is complete. "Initial assessment is it's it could be as much as 20 feet deep," John said. The board did not take a vote beyond acknowledging the emergency steps and asking for a later ratification report.
