Oneida County staff outline grant to fund Community Health Workers

Linda Conlon briefed the board on a Rural Health Transformation grant opportunity intended to support Community Health Workers (CHWs), emphasizing partnership models and regional approaches.
"CHWs are not case managers but work with individuals to connect them to services, including housing, mental health resources, and other community supports," Conlon said. She and members discussed how CHWs could reach people unwilling to engage with traditional case managers and noted CHW positions may not require college degrees, which could broaden applicant pools.
Robb Jensen asked about demand and how partnerships would work; Conlon explained potential regional or Human Services-style partnership structures and noted that expanding CHWs could strengthen outreach to vulnerable populations.
