Mountaintop water authority seeks $1.59 million in CDBG to reduce dangerous pressure swings

The Mountaintop Regional Water Authority asked the county July 28 to back a $1,589,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) request to replace pressure-control infrastructure, install pressure-reducing valves, construct a booster pump station and build a new transmission main.
Leslie, COG staff, told commissioners the authority estimates the project would serve about 1,200 residents and asked that the county consider supporting a competitive CDBG application. "Again, the competitive dollars, I think it's about $5,000,000 total across the state," Leslie said, noting last year 12 applicants competed and four projects were funded. Commissioners and staff agreed a strong application would likely require a substantial commitment of entitlement funds (Leslie said roughly 75% of this year's entitlement would be required to make a competitive application).
