Demolition begins at downtown multimodal site; town to launch master plan with public engagement

"We completed abatement and began demolition of the project site earlier this month," Kelly Blasey said, noting seven of 21 town-owned parcels have been cleared so far and that drone footage is being used to capture progress. Staff said demolition will continue through the end of the year while the town prepares a community-driven master-planning exercise with planning staff and public engagement early next year.
The master plan will analyze transit amenities alongside potential complementary uses, evaluate market possibilities and identify funding models (including Wake Transit funding for the transit portion). Staff expect to return with recommendations late next summer after the six-to-seven month planning and outreach process.
Next steps: begin the master-planning exercise early next year, run robust public engagement and return to council with site recommendations around late summer.
