Staff: Western BRT design at 30% milestone; extension study will go to public comment in August

Transit staff updated council on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) progress and an extension study that would bring BRT service to RTP.
Kelly Blasey, the town's transit director, said the Western BRT corridor has reached a 30% design milestone and plans are under review by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. "We have now reached the 30% design milestone for this project," she said. The Western corridor is roughly 12 miles with about 20 stations total and six stations located inside Cary.
Kelly also briefed council on a Western BRT extension study that would start at the Cary Multimodal Center and extend toward RTP; that study completed in May and is scheduled for public comment in August with expected action in September. Staff described federal funding eligibility steps tied to prior locally preferred alignment endorsements and said Raleigh remains the project sponsor for the corridor.
Next steps: Raleigh will lead the fall engagement effort; staff will report back as the project moves through design and funding milestones.
