The council approved Resolution 2026‑06 to establish Sept. 9 of each year in perpetuity as Dominguez Escalante Expedition Day. The measure passed by voice vote after a brief supportive exchange.
A presenter involved with the project described plans for an exhibit and related events, saying the effort received state support. "We got a $7,500 grant from the state of Colorado to put this together, plus we're working with Colorado Northwestern Community College," the presenter said, and added that Northern Arizona University is expected to visit this summer. Organizers described plans for a period‑costume parade and a Sept. 11 Canyon Potato Dominguez Escalante tour and discussed scheduling overlap with Septemberfest, urging coordination to maximize attendance.
The council recorded the resolution and supportive comments; staff and organizers said they will continue coordinating event timing with community festivals and museum partners.
