Trustee explains state-flag removal; board hears concerns about proposed homeschool legislation

Trustee Rob Scales explained the boardroom flag had been removed and said equality of process had been undermined by a recent voting-data software glitch. "We had the New Jersey state flag removed from the boardroom, very unsatisfied with the direction of our governor and the previous administration," he said, adding the change remains in place until the state takes action to address the election issue to the trustees' satisfaction.
Separately trustee Vinny summarized several pending bills in the New Jersey Legislature (Assembly Bill 3394 / Senate Bill 3910; Assembly Bill 1886; Assembly Bill 5796 / Senate Bill 4589) that would increase district oversight of homeschooling, requiring registration, curriculum disclosure, portfolios and annual evaluations. Vinny said he "adamantly oppose[d]" the bills and asked whether the board would draft a formal letter expressing opposition; trustees agreed to work together to prepare a response for the board to consider.
President Bowlby closed by reiterating support for trustees' rights as private citizens to voice opinion. The board then moved to an executive session on litigation and concluded public live streaming.
