Board weighs amending 2026–27 calendar to observe Good Friday; opts to refine before August vote

"Option 1 would be to revise our president's day... We would change this to a full day for students and staff and make Friday the day and basically take the day back in February," the superintendent said, explaining the trade-offs tied to emergency-days flexibility. Trustees discussed calendar flexibility, winter-weather risk and the burden of adding an extra day at the end of the year; several members favored adding a day at the end of the year rather than taking a professional-development hour.
Trustees agreed to provide their preferences so administration could prepare a formal revision for the August 19 meeting and publish the amended calendar on or about August 20. The board did not take an immediate binding vote at the July 22 meeting.
