Board extends deadline for Beechwood seat applications to Sept. 10

The Toms River Regional School District Board of Education voted to extend the application window for the Beechwood board seat to Sept. 10 at 4:00 p.m., giving prospective candidates more time to complete petition materials and documentation. A board member said advertisements and additional postings will follow and that applicants who already filed need not resubmit unless notified of deficiencies.

Board members and community speakers who addressed the meeting said several packets submitted before the extension were incomplete and that broad outreach is needed so Beachwood residents have a fair opportunity to apply. "Anyone interested in submitting a petition for the Beechwood member of the Toms River Regional Schools Board of Education may do so until September 10 at 4PM," the board announced. One board member said the statutory timeline requires the vacancy be filled 65 days from resignation, which the board calculated to put a fill date near Sept. 29.

At least one community member who has applied introduced himself during public comment and offered to work with the board if selected. "My name is Chris Burleson. I am a recent applicant for the Beachwood Board of Education position," he said, adding he grew up in the district and that his wife is an educator in Beachwood. The board said it expects to review and interview candidates after the extended deadline.
