City Manager Redmond Jones outlines plan to finish municipal audits by spring 2027

City Manager Redmond Jones said in the City Manager's Corner that the city aims to finish a multi-year backlog of audits and be fully current by the spring of 2027.

"Frankly, I joined the team in March 2025, and at that time, we were 3 years behind on our audits," Jones said, and he added that the city "were able to conclude our our audit for a fiscal year 2023 in October 2025." The statements framed the administration's progress and remaining work.

Jones told listeners the city is "about 92% complete right now" on the 2024 audit and expects to finish that review in "either August or September." He said the fiscal-year 2026 audit is delayed because the city has not yet passed its budget, and estimated it will take between "30 days and 90 days" to close out that project once the budget is approved.

To accelerate work, Jones said auditors have agreed to perform the fiscal-year 2025 and 2026 audits concurrently. "That's gonna dramatically help us wrap up our audits and get us totally up to speed by the 1st 0.25 ... of the next calendar year of 2027," he said, noting a target window of "somewhere between March and April" for being fully caught up.

Jones said catching up on audits will allow planned projects to move forward. He closed the briefing by thanking listeners and saying he looks forward to providing updates as the budget process and audit work proceed.

The next concrete steps Jones identified are passage of the city budget (which he said he expects soon) and completion of the 2024 audit in August or September; he said auditors are prepared to handle 2025 and 2026 together once the budget issue is resolved.
