District curriculum staff described a redesigned enrichment period for middle schools that pairs a rotating vocabulary intervention with a short math problem-of-the-week and targeted small-group instruction.
Adrienne and the enrichment presenters said the program will focus the first 10–15 minutes of the enrichment period on vocabulary (using a research-based program called 95% Vocabulary Surge) and math problem-solving; the remainder of the period will provide teacher-led small groups based on diagnostic assessments. “The great thing about this program is that it takes 10 to 15 minutes a day,” one presenter said, describing scripted lessons, manipulatives, and group work rather than an online-only tool.
A presenter said the program materials cost approximately $7,000 per intermediate school for the three intermediate schools and that the purchase is expected to be a one-time cost with two hours of professional development included. Implementation is planned from October through June, with rotations so students receive both ELA vocabulary and math interventions during the school year.
