Isaiah Sanchez, vice president of Future Business Leaders of America and a high-school student, told the board volunteers are ready to form a nonprofit foundation that would allow tax-deductible donations and expand access to grants.
"What we need tonight is this board's endorsement," Sanchez said, arguing a foundation would let businesses and families contribute tax‑deductible gifts, support transportation and athletic uniforms, and pursue grants that require a nonprofit fiscal sponsor. He said community members were prepared to serve on a founding board and begin initial IRS filings and fundraising steps.
Board members acknowledged that a nonprofit could expand fundraising options and asked staff to clarify timelines and any governance or accounting implications before offering formal endorsement.
