Board approves $100,000 nursing-services contract, corrects contract text

On July 23 the Edgecombe County Public Schools Board of Education approved a contract with Progressive Health Services Incorporated (referred to in discussion as ProHealth) for nursing services for the 2026–27 school year in the corrected amount of $100,000. A board member pointed out a discrepancy in paragraph two of the contract (the text showed $60,000 written out with $100,000 in parentheses); the board and presenter confirmed $100,000 is correct.
Board members asked whether the district has school nurses and whether this contract covered multiple students; the presenter said the contract is effectively for one student who transferred into the district and that the vendor will provide substitute staff when needed. The motion to approve the corrected contract was seconded and approved by voice vote.
