Council members heard that the city plans to launch a new citizen communications app, City Connect, and staff gave a firm activation date.
Committee minutes read during the meeting said "Miss Katie Hartley presented a new phone application called City Connect," which would allow citizens to download the app for free to receive city notifications and make service requests; departments will manage their own sections. Those minutes were read aloud by a presenter during the Service, Safety & Recreation committee report.
The finance director told the council the app "is not gonna be active until the 29th," and that while the app may appear in app stores earlier, the city's backend activation will occur on July 29. Staff said the app will be free to download and intended to centralize service requests and notices across departments.
Officials said they will publicize the app when it is active and that departments will be responsible for their own notifications and responses.
