Commissioners asked for detailed documentation on the sheriff—s transport/escort program and associated vehicle usage before committing to further equipment purchases. Commissioner (S5) requested a package including the program—s current fee schedule, revenues for each of the past three years, annual expenditures, mileage logs, and the fund account where payments are deposited.
Chair (S3) and staff agreed that the county needs a clear list of vehicles and assignment information (who has take-home cars and mileage histories) to evaluate the recent uptick in fuel and fleet maintenance spending. Staff reported a fleet cash inflow figure ("taken in 267,000") but commissioners said the records do not currently show how that income is recorded and used.
The board asked staff to draft a letter seeking these records from the sheriff—s office and to return with a vehicle inventory and historical mileage data ahead of the next budget reading.
