Board authorizes county attorney to seek writ for special election after commissioner's resignation

The county attorney asked the board to authorize the petition, and the board approved the resolution by roll call. Staff and counsel said the special election would be scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026, consistent with local election timing, and that the county would follow the statutory process for notifying the circuit court and administering the election.
Commissioner Rousey, who had been recognized earlier for 27 years of service, resigned and staff sought the board's direction to proceed with the writ procedure required by state law.
