Board receives FY2025 audit with unmodified opinion and certifies receipt

The county's FY2025 audited financial statements were presented to the Board of Supervisors Dec. 16, and the board voted to certify receipt of the audit report to the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts.
Josh Roller, partner at Robinson Farmer Cox, told the board the auditors issued an unmodified opinion (a clean opinion) on the fiscal year 2025 financial statements and found no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses in internal controls. He noted a change in accounting principle tied to new GASB guidance on the treatment of accrued compensated absences, which required a restatement of the beginning net position but did not affect fund balances. "We have issued an unmodified opinion," Mr. Roller said.
County staff asked the board to authorize the chairman and the deputy county administrator to sign the certification required by the Auditor of Public Accounts; the board approved the request by roll call. Staff said the final audit report will be posted to the county's website when it is in final form.
