Council hears community announcements: Journey with Lupus, beautification, cleanup dates and early voting start

Dr. Phyllis Long invited residents to the Journey with Lupus outdoor gathering on July 25 at Colonial Park (1330 Colonial Drive) and asked for community support and donations via journeywithlupus.com. "We will be starting at 12:00," Dr. Long said, and asked the community to join for games, food and a purple balloon release to remember those lost to lupus.
Gabe Henderson and other residents described community clean-up activities and dumpster locations for July 25 (Wheatley Park, Westwood Park and Lemoane Park) and encouraged neighbors to participate in beautification events. Henderson also asked about DPW tree trimming and provided neighborhood observations about ongoing maintenance needs.
The clerk reported that early in-person voting will begin July 25 and continue through Aug. 2, with all nine days at City Hall for residents who want to cast ballots before the Aug. 4 election. Councilmembers and staff also praised Summerfest volunteers and noted smoke and air-quality concerns during the weekend's events.
