Residents press county to repair and secure Temple Park after reports of neglect and trespassing

During the public comment period, several residents urged the Board of Supervisors to address long‑standing problems at Temple Park, a 32‑acre property donated to the county. Tiffany Link described the park’s basketball courts as "cracked and worn," restroom facilities as in poor condition and said the site has become a gathering point for illicit nighttime activities; she called for a security gate and investment in restoration to make the park safe and usable for local families.

Other commenters and board members later referenced Temple Park during the pavilion and parks funding discussion, noting that the playgrounds, walking trails and other amenities at community parks need maintenance. Parks staff confirmed known deficiencies — cracked courts and antiquated restrooms — and said they would include Temple Park items in future budgets if funding allows. Board members agreed a list of Temple Park deficiencies would be useful for prioritizing repairs and noted that some tourism funds already supported recent renovations at other parks (for example, pickleball/tennis repairs previously funded from tourism receipts).

Board members said staff would follow up and include Temple Park needs in the facilities/parks planning process. Several supervisors expressed a personal commitment to address donated properties that have been neglected, and asked Parks and Recreation to provide a prioritized list of deficiencies and cost estimates for future budget cycles.
