Marita, the county clerk, told the board that the Telluride School District did not submit the required July letter of intent to coordinate a ballot by the July 25 deadline. As a result, county staff prepared and mailed a separate ballot packet to affected voters and asked the school district to cover the additional costs.
"I did get the ballots up there on Friday... Telluride School District will be responsible for all of the extra costs incurred," Marita said, and she urged recipients to follow the cover letter instructions and return the supplemental ballot inside the original official ballot envelope. She said the county had not yet received Rico ballots at the time of the meeting and offered a process for voters who already returned an original packet to contact the clerk's office for an alternative return method.
Marita said she reviewed files and found a sticky note indicating an earlier clerk had noted Dolores County School District's intent in late July, but the district's submission for Telluride did not arrive by the deadline; the county will continue outreach to ensure ballots are returned and processed correctly.
