Commissioners probe geotechnical and rockfall mitigation at Village Station site plan

During review of the Village Station site plan, commissioners raised questions about geotechnical safety and hillside monitoring. Commissioner Holbrook asked whether similar hillside monitoring requirements applied at this location; Sherry responded the primary hazard at this site is rockfall rather than groundwater movement and described ongoing mitigation steps.
Sherry said teams are "starting on the mitigation work for any rockfall hazards" and noted that a rockfall wall used in the first phase of Village Station will be continued in front of the new townhomes. She said the contractor will remove large boulders from the hillside ahead of construction and that geotechnical engineers will observe the site during foundation excavation to check for any active faults. The measures were described as part of approvals by the city's geotech firm and city engineer; outstanding engineering red lines remain a recordation condition.
