Davis County Library outlines temporary Bountiful site, 18'24 month renovation timeline

Josh Johnson, introduced by the mayor as the library representative, told the council the Bountiful branch has been closed for about two weeks while staff move collections and prepare an off-site temporary location at 85 North Main Street.

"We intend to have a soft opening on the March 2," Johnson said, adding that a March 25 grand opening is planned. He described the temporary site as a smaller location with item checkout, holds pickup and drop-off, after-hours book return and a "smaller physical collections for all ages" with a heavier emphasis on children's materials.

Johnson warned that the temporary shop is about half the Centerville branch's square footage, so programming and meeting-room availability will be reduced. He also said the full renovation of the existing building requires hazardous-material remediation and that construction work would not start in earnest until spring; staff estimated a project timeframe of "at least 18 months" and are budgeting around 24 months.

Council members asked about service continuity and how the temporary location will relieve pressure on nearby branches. Johnson said all digital library services would remain available during the closure and that the library is seeking an additional satellite site farther south if budget and lease options permit. He recommended residents contact Kim Veil (library programming and outreach) for event coordination and outreach to community activities planned in March.

The presentation closed with council members thanking library staff and offering to help publicize the temporary site and upcoming events.
